Fandango’s One Word Challenge = Customary
. . . . .
CUSTOMARY
It was rather tedious
to get past all the results
that had to do with
CUSTOMARY
units of measure
to find suitable treasure
to include in this
more or less
CUSTOMARY
blog post
i.e., my responses to these One Word Challenges
have taken on a somewhat
CUSTOMARY
format.
Wouldn’t you say?
It simplifies my composition efforts.
Repetition breeds familiarity.
CUSTOMARY
Nearly everything in our lives is governed to some extent by
CUSTOMARY
actions, reactions, counteractions,
policies, laws, regulations
habits, traditions, rituals
I’m convinced, in general humans appreciate the
CUSTOMARY
approaches to life and living.
Routine soothes us.
Gives us a reassuring sense of stability and predictability.
Mostly, we are not truly fans of surprises, interruptions, and disruptions;
even though it is in those disturbances that creativity and innovation arise.
We want to be spontaneous, renegades, mavericks, even rebels and outlaws.
But most of the time we cherish comfort and convenience.
We have to intend to move outside the
CUSTOMARY
like taking a deep breath to dive into the alien world of underwater exploration
we must prepare ourselves, brace ourselves, set our jaws, and launch ourselves
into the alien worlds of the extraordinary, the unplanned, the non-compliant
And we will always eventually gravitate back to the

Listen to Johnny Rivers add extra meaning to CUSTOMARY

Maybe it’s because I’m listening to that song through my hearing aids on my iPhone, but that guy doesn’t sound at all like the Johnny Rivers I remember.

I thought that, too, actually. I think that’s because this song is from very early in Rivers’ catalog. The songs I remember were from the mid-to-late ’60s; especially Secret Agent Man and Poor Side of Town.

Not sure why I bring this up, but a few years ago we had tickets and were going to travel to a Louisana casino resort to see Rivers. A month before, he cancelled. I heard, but did not verify, he was too afraid of COVID to perform in public.
On November 15, 1984 I saw him perform at the Majestic Theater in San Antonio, TX. His show was on par, if not better, with some of the greats I’ve seen there including Roy Orbison, BB King & others.

Apparently he canceled all of his 2021 shows! Nevertheless, I think he is among those performers who never quite get the recognition they deserve.
