it’s big
and deep
impossibly big
unimaginably deep
this ocean
in which I find myself
treading water
all alone
hoping against hope
to be discovered
saved
rescued
before I succumb to hypothermia
or get eaten by sharks
or die of starvation
or simply drown
lost and alone
helpless
hopeless
homeless
in a tumultuous sea
that swallows me
and will not spit me out
Too deep

Indeed, John. It is the sometimes overwhelming crush of life’s circumstances that will seem too much to bear from time to time.

Thanks, John. I know. Just… in all my years the duration and intensity has not been like this. But, yes! I like that – “soldier on.” Nothing for it but to do so. The feather-laden ice cream helps. 🙂
